How to use the site

The site opens on the “Tree” tab. In the middle stands one person (his card is surrounded by a frame), above him are his parents and ancestors, below him are his children, next to him are his brothers, sisters and spouses.

• Click on any card, and a detailed card of the person will open on the right.
• To move to another branch, open the person’s card and click “Put in the center of the tree.” Then his relatives will appear around him.
• The inscription “+3 relatives” on the card means that the person has relatives who are not visible now. Place it in the center and they will appear.
• The line "In the center: ..." above the tree remembers where you have already been. Click on the name to go back.
• Move tree You can use the mouse (pinch and drag) or your finger. Zoom in and out - buttons + and − in the corner, pinch with two fingers or the mouse wheel while holding Ctrl. “Fit” will show the whole thing again.
• There is a list on the left "Branches and surnames": Melnikovs, Bushins, Calugarianu, Elena’s family and others. Click on a family name and the tree will jump to that branch. The “Igor” and “Elena” buttons lead to their lines.
• The “↔ Horizontal” button turns the tree sideways: generations go from left to right. Convenient on a wide screen.

The entire tree in one big diagram: tab "Archive", button “The whole tree on one diagram”. There you can expand it to full screen.

The card contains everything that is known about the person:

• who is he related to Igor;
• dates and places of birth, marriage, death, where he lived. Next to each fact there is a document number (for example, S12): click on it and the document itself will open;
• parents, brothers and sisters, spouses, children. Click on a name to go to that person;
• “What is known”: stories, guesses and reservations;
• photographs and scans of documents;
• comments from relatives and a form to add yours.

You can close the card with a cross × in the corner or with the key Esc.

• Search at the top of the page (“Find a person…”): Start typing a first or last name and select a person from the list. The tree will stand on him and reveal his card.
• Tab "People" — a list of everyone who is in the tree. The filter above the list searches by name, relationship (“great-grandfather”, “aunt”) and year.

The History tab provides a coherent story about the family, from its earliest ancestors to the present day. You can read it in a row, like a book, or you can jump through it:

• "By time" — feed over the years: click on a year to jump to that moment.
• "In places" — click on a place (for example, Lidinka or Kapaklia), and all passages about it will be highlighted in the text. The ↑ ↓ arrows move between them, “Reset” removes the highlight.
• "Chapters" — table of contents.

The “Places” tab shows where our relatives lived and how they moved. Select a family branch from the top. Scroll through the list, and the map itself will fly to the desired location. “Discover the history of a place” will show what was there, which family members lived there and what documents it is known from.

The "Archive" tab - all the documents on which the tree is built: metrics, certificates, photographs, tombstones, newspapers, manuscripts.

• Archive search searches by name, place, year or word from a document.
• The “View” and “Type” buttons select, for example, only photographs or only documents of the Bushins.
• Click on a document to see it in its entirety, read the description, and jump to the people it concerns.
• Below is the “Search Log” (where they have already searched and what they found) and the “Correction Log” (what has changed in the tree and why).
• There you can also download the tree as a GEDCOM file for MyHeritage, Gramps and other programs.

This tab tells about the ancestors, their destinies and places of life. Click on the name to open the person’s card, on the name of the place to go to the map, on the illustration to view it larger.

  Dotted card with ≈ sign - probable connection: we think these are the parents of this person, but there is no document yet.
• + suggest
  Blank dotted card "+ suggest" - there must be a person here whom we do not know (for example, an unknown mother). Click on it and write if you know who it is.
• S12 L5
  Numbers S1 , S2 , … - documents from the archive. L1, L2, … — leads: something was found, but not yet verified.
• 24
  Number on the Questions and Discussion tab — how many comments are there?
• "according to the story"
  “According to the family”, “according to the story” - information from memories. We keep them separate from what is documented, but they are no less valuable.

The address in the browser bar changes as you navigate the site, so you can simply copy it and send it: the same tab, the same person or document will open. There is a “Link” button in a person’s card: it copies a direct link to him, and you can paste it into a message.

• The tabs at the top scroll sideways: there are more items there than fit on the screen.
• The tree is moved with one finger and enlarged with a pinch of two.
• The list of surnames is hidden under the “Branches and surnames ▾” button.
• The person's card is revealed on top of the tree. You can close it with a cross or by clicking on the darkened part of the screen.

Refresh the page. If it doesn’t help, write to Igor saying what exactly you clicked and what you saw. It's best to attach a screenshot.
