Homeland of the Kamyshanovs. According to the wound card index, Stepan Ignatyevich Kamyshanov was born in 1897 in the khutor of Kalach — today's Kalach-na-Donu, then a khutor of Pyatiizbyanskaya stanitsa. In the khutor of Kachalin in the same stanitsa lived the family of Ignat Kamyshanov — Stepan's probable relatives. Many Cossacks of the stanitsa were Old Believers; in 1889 Kamyshanovs lived in the khutors of Yevseyev, Plesisty, Volodin, Lyapichev, Verbovsky and Grachev.
Kalach and Kachalinsky according to the 1915 “Alphabetical list” (S612): Kalach is a large khutor on the Don, 752 households, about 2,900 inhabitants; Kachalinsky is on the Liska stream, 25 versts from the stanitsa, 57 households, 348 inhabitants (34 households in 1873). From 1869 Kalach had its own wooden St Nicholas church (S613): the records of Stepan Ignatievich's birth in 1897–1898 should be sought in its registers (State Archive of Rostov or Volgograd region).
